PCB Silkscreen

PCB Silkscreen

Silkscreen (legend) is the printed text and symbols on the PCB surface used for component identification, test points, logos, and other markings.

Color Options

For most solder mask colors, the silkscreen is printed in white. When the solder mask color is white, the silkscreen is printed in black for contrast.

Recommendations

  • White silkscreen can easily blend with a gray surface (e.g., bare aluminum) — consider using no silkscreen in such cases
  • Minimum text height: 0.8mm (recommended 1.0mm+)
  • Minimum line width: 0.15mm (recommended 0.2mm+)
  • Keep silkscreen away from pads to avoid solder issues

Best Practices

Place reference designators near their components for easy assembly. Use consistent text size and orientation. Avoid placing silkscreen over vias or exposed copper areas.
